Oklahoma College of Court Reporting
Testimonials

My name is Kathryn Williams. I recently received my certificate of completion from the Court Reporting Institute of Kansas City. I am 18 years old and a single mom. Once being introduced to the court reporting profession by my step-mom, I learned of the numerous areas an education in court reporting could take me. During my research, I had talked to several people who had completed various court reporting programs and were still unable to pass the required exams. Needless to say, I knew what to look for in choosing a court reporting training program.

When I met with Irene Narvaez, the director of CRIKC, she and her staff spent a great deal of time explaining the program and how it differs from other schools by focusing on the most important aspects of court reporting. There are no extra classes or distractions, and each student can get through school at their own pace.  I knew I had found the school that was right for me.

With a five-month old daughter, I enrolled in CRIKC. I quickly learned a conflict-free theory that focused on speed through the use of endless briefs and phrases. With a great deal of guidance from CRIKC and a tremendous desire to succeed, I completed my court reporting training in 13 months!

This experience, of course, has not been without its challenges. Being my age and being a single mom has not been easy, but it has more than paid off by having such a strong support system. I am now practicing at 240 words a minute, and I am looking forward to passing all of my state and national exams in spring 2006. Thanks to the guidance and caring people at CRIKC, I have skills that will last a lifetime and the self confidence of being able to support myself and my daughter with a great career. Thank you CRIKC!

My name is Kasey Egelston, and I am 28 years old. I am married and I have two boys ages 6 and 3. After visiting several court reporting schools in my area I decided to attend Oklahoma College of Court Reporting. My first theory class started September 2004. To my surprise it came very easy to me and I found myself excited and eager to learn. I finished my theory class in just five weeks and quickly started speedbuilding classes. I immediately started setting short term goals and of course, my long term goal was to pass the Oklahoma CSR exam. You have to be certified to work as a court reporter in Oklahoma and every state that borders Oklahoma.

I continued to move through speeds at a fast rate. At our school, theory and speedbuilding are self paced. After 11 months of speedbuilding I was out of my 200’s and I took the CSR exam for the first time. Although I did not pass the first time, I came very close and I knew that I definitely had a chance to pass it the second time.

I made a new goal of working on my real time in class and building my dictionary in my software. I also had some experience at captioning for the Hough Ear Institute (Self Help Hard of Hearing). That was something that was very helpful for me to gain confidence as a writer.

Around 18 months after starting Oklahoma College of Court Reporting I passed the Oklahoma CSR test on April 22, 2006!

Oklahoma College of Court Reporting was truly a great experience for me. The staff and cirriculum as well as using the StenoWave System daily in speedbuilding allowed me to work as quickly as I wanted. I left the program without any student loans and paid approximately $6,400 in total tuition for my time there. Don’t let anyone tell you you can’t be a court reporter in less than two years. I did it! I know several other reporters in town who attended OCCR and finished in less than two years as well.
