| Mission Statement
Oklahoma College of Court
Reporting and Court Reporting Institute of Kansas City serve a single purpose: to prepare our students for
the professional positions they will assume as court
reporters, captioners and hearing impaired interpreters.
Oklahoma College of Court
Reporting and Court Reporting Institute of Kansas City are dedicated to providing quality education. Through
the education we have provided, many students, predominantly
women, have gained access to careers that continue to offer
improved flexibility, independence, and greater earning
potential. High school seniors making a first-time career
choice and adults looking to retrain, are offered a unique
combination of theory and hands-on training that teaches not
only "why" but "how," while successfully preparing graduates
for immediate employment.
College History
Oklahoma College of Court
Reporting and Court Reporting Institute of Kansas City was founded in 1987 by Mr. Joe Welsch, a well
respected official court reporter in Central Oklahoma. Under
the direction of Mr. Welsch, OCCR became widely respected for
providing quality education in the court reporting profession.
Mr. Welsch was a pioneer in the late 80s in producing quality
video tapes now being used around the country for
speedbuilding purposes.
In 1994, Mr. Freddy Leggett
took over OCCR and enjoyed much success balancing a well
respected court reporting school and free lance court
reporting firm.
Our Directors
Oklahoma College of Court
Reporting and Court Reporting Institute of Kansas City are currently owned and operated by Mr. Lawrence Narvaez and his partners
Susan and Albert Narvaez.
As a court reporter for 21
years, Mrs. Narvaez heads the mentoring program and greatly
assists in OCCR's job placement program. Mr. Narvaez is
founder and creator of the StenoWave System TM.
The Stenowave System is a
unique and proven speedbuilding system designed to increase
student productivity. This System was first implemented at
OCCR in 1995 and continues to provide a quality form of
education not only for OCCR, but many court reporting schools
around the country.
